Please introduce yourself and the band members briefly? Threads of Fate is John Ogden (myself, composing and vocals), Vikram Shankar (Keyboards, synths and orchestrations) and Jack Kosto (Guitars)   What does the band name mean and how do you get it? The name is a play on the Greek myth of the Fates. How this band came to be along with the circumstances that inspired its source material… all of it is very personal to me, and I felt it was all part of a greater tapestry.   Where and how was the band founded? I started Threads of Fate in late 2016, while living in Florida. It was only Jack and myself in the beginning.   Have you played in other bands before? Yes, but nothing to lose your mind over.   Was it hard to find suitable band members who fit musically and humanely with the band? Honestly not really, it all sort of fell into place quite nicely. Jack, Vik and I have an undeniable musical chemistry that I’m very grateful for.   What are the lyrics about and who of you is writing them ? As far as the EP, the lyrical themes involve those such as tragedy, loss, mourning, revenge and losing oneself to hatred or despair. Metaphorically of course. It symbolizes a dark period of my life that I experienced.   Which bands inspired you and how would you describe your music to someone who has never heard a sound from you? The biggest inspiration for our first effort was the band Eternal Tears of Sorrow. Other notable influences include Insomnium, Evergrey, Dark Tranquility and Nightwish. If I had to describe our music, I would simply say it is melodic metal.   Why should people listen to your music? I believe it can be a very big source of comfort to any who have experienced pain, loss or betrayal.   A Funeral for the Virtuous your debut ep is from 2018 how long have the work been going on and who helped you with the production ? The whole thing took about a year to get done, and Jack is responsible for all the mixing and mastering.   The cover artwork is by Xenoyr from the Australian band Ne Obliviscaris he has worked for several bands. How have you come to him since and how satisfied with his work since then? I met Xen at a show I played. Spawn of Thirteen (the band I do live keyboards for) was opening for Ne Obliviscaris. And of course I would say I am very satisfied with his work, beyond that in all honesty. I plan to work with him in terms of artwork indefinitely.   Another question to Xenoyr. Why did not you ask him right away if he did not want to make a guest appearance, I think his voice would have been a good match for the one or the other song? Haha! Honestly it didn’t occur to me, and even if it had, he’s a very busy man, I wouldn’t have wanted to trouble him past the artwork. But…It’s definitely a wonderful idea, I’d love to have him on a future release, if he’s willing of course.   Since you all are active in other bands since what priority you give their threads of fate ? To me it’s my top priority, it is my creation after all. The other guys prioritize it heavily and beyond my expectations considering how busy they are (which I’m super thankful for), but we’ve always had the understanding that they have greater responsibilities, and that’s totally ok with me.   How far have you been with new songs and what are the plans for a hopefully upcoming album? The full length is entirely in its infancy, but the ideas and songs are starting to take shape and soon I will be making the demos. It will be a much darker album than the EP, and quite different.   What was your first concert as a fan? And what memory do you have of it? My first concert ever was KISS at the age of 12. I remember being showered in beer and being displeased with it haha.   But I was also totally lost in the fact that I was seeing Paul Stanley live. He was my favorite frontman at the time.   What were your live highlights and with which bands did you play? My favorite highlight of a past band was the last show I ever played with a band called Dementia (the first band I seriously played for). It was a packed venue and I played flawlessly that evening (I was their keyboardist).   Have already resulted in friendship ? Unfortunately we all went our separate ways.   Which band would you like to play live with and why? I’ve always fantasized about playing keyboards live for Swallow The Sun. I know some of the guys personally and I always have a great time whenever I see them. It of course helps that I’m a huge fan of their music.   With what do you earn your money except with the music? Average day jobs lol.   How important are social media for you as a band? I see it as an unfortunate but necessary evil.   What would you (her) want to achieve with the band? Honestly, I would be happy with a decent following, a few tours with some oft he bands I love, perhaps a headlining tour down the road and maybe a record deal? Who knows.   What do you think about the USA Metal scene in general? I’m not the biggest fan of it and I have my reservations, which I will respectively keep to myself.   Maybe you can recommend some bands from your area? My buddy‘s band, Flesh Sermon (Formerly known as Secrets She Kept). Tremendous black metal band from Florida.   PERSONAL QUESTIONS !   Where did you grow up and how was your childhood? San Juan, Puerto Rico. My childhood was pretty decent. Not perfect by any means, but not the worst either.   How was your school time you were rather the good student or the break clown ? School was very hard for me. I’ve always been a bit of an odd ball and also very, very morbid as a person. As you can imagine such things aren’t exactly thought highly of in a Catholic private school.   How did your parents react when you started making metal music? did they support you and how do you feel about your music today? My mother has always been very, very supportive of my passions. I am very grateful for that. The music I play today is very very different than what I would have liked to play at that age, as one would imagine. I feel what I do today accurately reflects who I actually am as an individual.   Would you be successful in making music as a musician? Let’s hope. I have a long way to go   Are you someone who loves the hustle and bustle of the big city? or rather looking for peace and relaxation in nature? I used to love cities but as I get older I seem to prefer nature, or quieter, more serene surroundings.   Do you actively practice sports or are you more of a passive spectator? I’m actually very much into fitness and being athletic.   When it comes to your physical well you can cook or let you cook for you I love cooking!   What does your environment tell you about your passion for metal (friends / family / colleagues) ? My environment in the U.S hasn’t exactly always been the greatest, and that shows in my musical preferences(bands I relate to most) and of course the music I write.   How do you see the problem with the haters on the internet who have to announce their mental garbage in anonymity always and everywhere? At the end of the day everyone is a critic and everyone has an opinion. Can’t concern yourself too much with it.   What do you think about the internet in general? a blessing or a curse? Both, undoubtedly.   What would you personally like to do in your life? Live comfortably as a musician. Perhaps start a family with my fiancee.   Which question would you like to have answered and why? I have too many   USA No   Austria Would like to visit   Fast Food Nope.
