SOUTHERN SKIES   POWER METAL FROM ARGENTINA Band Questions answer by LOBO & EZEQUIEL
Please introduce yourself and the band members briefly? Lobo:Hi everyone, I'm Lobo Heimdall, singer of Southern skies, it's a pleasure to be able to answer this interview from Argentina, where I am at this moment. Ezequiel: Hello i am Ezequiel Scarlato, keyboardist of Southern Skies. Thanks for the interview and is an honor for us   What does the band name mean and how do you get it? Lobo: that was something that occurred to Ezequiel, besides sounding well reveals the location of the band in a geographical way Ezequiel: We always listen that escandinavian bands use the word north for everything, and is a way to identify them self. So we thought why not put South in the name, and that is how the name Southern Skies born   Where and how was the band founded? Lobo: The band formed in September 2015, we just started it with Ezequiel, with only two members. Ezequiel for many years that was not playing but my insistence to help me to shape songs that had armed was what prompted him to give life to Southern Skies, in fact it was just a year later when we released Cradled By Oblivion Eyes Ezequiel: I was really tired of playing in bands and all the problems that comes with it (irresponsable menbers, not having a clean direction). The insistence of lobo (he can be a pain Lol) push me to start working with him in some ideas he had, that ended in what you can hear in Cradled by Oblivion Eyes   Have you played in other bands before? Lobo: The bands I was with are called Kraken's spirit, War Raven, Tempano and Southern Skies Ezequiel: I sang in some band during the 90s, later down the road we made War Raven (now as keyboardist) with lobo and another good friend, and now Southern Skies   Was it hard to find suitable band members who fit musically and humanely with the band? Lobo: I think that in that sense we have been very lucky because the other members of the band appeared simultaneously and in addition to having enormous musical abilities, they liked the musical proposal and that of belonging to the band. Ezequiel: They are great musicians, and more important awesome persons   What does the band name mean? Ezequiel: The name is just a representation of the part of the worl we are from with lobo, We are from argentina so i thought that the name has to have the world south in it. And the skies come for all the ways or songs changes in climaxs.   What are the lyrics about and who of you is writing them ? Lobo: The lyrics have varied topics, Warlords talks about the only thing that causes the war that is death and money. Fight or fall, speaks of an experience and philosophy of life, in my case, I feel that it is so with some aspects of my life. Behind the sun, it's just a sad story that we all tend to experience in life sooner or later. Icedlands is the first-person representation of a Malvinas soldier who is on the deathlines. From the ashes, he talks about those people who try to be someone they are not, I usually see him often and in most cases they only do it to fit in certain circles of friendships, it is very typical of adolescents. Hate and Fear Breeder, talks about those patients in hospitals, I thought it was convenient to make a song to help them with all the weight they carry on their shoulders. Inglorious Bastard, talks about a guy who only uses you to achieve his ambitions since he lacks the talent and faculties to achieve his goals on his own. I have written all the songs   Which bands inspired you and how would you describe your music to someone who has never heard a sound from you? Lobo: I've had so many musical influences since I started with this that I would not know where to start, but it always bothered me to consider Metal as a subnormal music or things like that just because you have a bunch of guys that represent it that way, when for me it has always represented a sophisticated and sharp thought, perhaps too direct and violent for many who are not part of this world but it is only my opinion. Helloween, Gamma Ray, In Flames, Slayer, Sodom, Vhaldemar, Heimdall, Running Wild, Stryper, Rotting Christ, Guns and roses were some of them, So I love Death and Black Metal too. Ezequiel: I love all metal, but probably Scandinavian, and european metal is what i listen the most. Specially Black, melodic death, viking, pagan metal   Why should people listen to our music? Lobo: Metal has the faculty of making you a thinking being and of an absolute intellectual freedom, especially in an era where massive control in psychological areas is so great and powerful. I feel that this music causes unity and has so many variations that you can always listen to a beta that you like, in my case it is that way since I was 11 years old Ezequiel: Metal is not like other genders, Metal brings people together, no mather race, color, sex. I an a concert everybody are brothers and sisters of the band. The Unity that metal bring is unique   Cradled by Oblivion Eyes is your debut album from 2016. How long did the work on the songs last? Lobo: In two weeks we had the songs formed and in a month they were finished, the rest was search delays that the other members and production, we usually compose and finish the songs very fast, we have a very good chemistry and dynamics and I am personally very happy thus Ezequiel: Lobo and me know each other for years now, and that shows on the composition. Be have a great dynamic know what each other like and that help us to compose fast and what we like to hear   With Pedro J. Monge from band Vhäldemar you have a Spanish bass, Guitars player. How is this working together with him? Lobo: Pedro J. Monge is a beast, he is on a very outstanding scale on 6 - 7 strings, he is a fantastic producer and a great friend, I can not say more than he is the right guy Ezequiel: Pedro is another thing!. He a fantastic guitar player and on top of that his work giving us the sound in the studio was awesome. We are bleeded to have him on Southern Skies   The album also features Diego Valdez (helker / dream child, etc.), a well known singer from your homeland. How did you get in touch with him and how did you work together? Lobo: Diego besides being my singing teacher is also my friend, it was very simple, I asked him if he would like to participate in a song and he had no problems with that   The album is now already three years old. How far have you been with new songs and when can we expect a new release? Lobo: We currently have five more albums and we continue to build more, but for that time I was removed from the music since 2015 because the original idea was to make albums with Southern Skies and publish them without more, I did not intend to play live, just give me the pleasure of composing and recording the songs that I liked without more ambitions Ezequiel: We like to make music, as lobo say, we have material for 5 albums more.   What was your first concert as a fan? And what memory do you have of it? Lobo: My first concert was watching Horcas, which is a local band Argentina, it was really something that at that moment I was moved by the soul in a way that never repeated itself ... I've grown up lol Ezequiel: Monters of Rock 94 with Megadeth and Alice Cooper. I was really exited to go to a concert that big i was blowed away by the volume and sound. Also is a nice memory i have with a friend that sadly passed aways a few years ago   What were your live highlights and with which bands did you play? Lobo: I've had many really good moments, I think I could tell you that all except one time where I did not enjoy it because I was playing with a band that did not share the same goals but it was also good. A show we gave in Brazil, at the Maniacs Metal Meeting I think it was one of the best because among 30 or more bands, we came out as a revelation band, it was not really with Southern Skies, but with a former Manowar (David Shankle) where I was hired to sing the album The Triumph Of Steel Ezequiel: I sang with a band i had a couple of times like and 2 live shows as keyboardist with War Raven   Have already resulted in friendship ? Ezequiel: Lobo and me are friends for almost 20 years. More than friends we are brothers, we never fight we never argue, we just know each other really well, and we are totally in sinc, when we compose and create songs for Southern Skies   Which band would you like to play live with and why? Lobo: I never considered playing with anyone in particular but maybe if I could I would like to play with Slayer, Manowar, Iron Maiden and Guns And Roses. Ezequiel: Well i dont really have a special band i want to play with. Probably the fanboy inside me would like to play with Iron Maiden, just to have the oportunity to know them Lol   With what do you earn your money except with the music? Lobo: I have a gym Ezequiel: My father and i have a Classic Car and Motorcycle restoration garage   How important are social media for you as a band? Lobo: Nowadays they are very important to be able to communicate to the followers of my musical activities, they have an important benefit and it is something positive   What would you (her) want to achieve with the band? Lobo: I will enjoy a lot when we get into great activity doing world tours and getting to see people enjoy our music and know that they are there because we like them, maybe it's a very basic dream but it would be fine for me   What do you think about the Argentina Metal scene in general? Lobo: there are some good bands but I do not usually go to many shows Ezequiel: Well I neither go to many shows, but there are some good bands here   Maybe you can recommend some bands from your area? Ezequiel: well probably the band that i like the most here in argentina, is Mastifal. For others i dont like that much, i am more the european scene of metal, specially scandinavian metal   PERSONAL QUESTIONS !   Where did you grow up and how was your childhood? Lobo: I grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, I had a very happy childhood, in fact I remember that we played Play Movils with friends listening to Maiden lol with only 5 years old, that was thanks to the older brothers of my childhood friends   How was your school time you were rather the good student or the break clown ? Lobo: I'll have to stay with the clown (Rolf) my personality prevented me from being a great student in much of my childhood and adolescence but then better   How did your parents react when you started making metal music? did they support you and how do you feel about your music today? Lobo: My parents are from the Rock school of the 70's and Metal, so in my case it was completely natural because it was the music that was heard at home   Would you be successful in making music as a musician? Lobo: I'm currently very successful in that and I'm still progressing, I'm working as a sessionist and I'm satisfied with what I've achieved, there's still much more to do   Are you someone who loves the hustle and bustle of the big city? or rather looking for peace and relaxation in nature? Lobo: would place me in the middle of both things that is right where I live today, a small city that has everything without being centric and bullish   Do you actively practice sports or are you more of a passive spectator? Lobo: I train religiously every day to the maximum of my capacity, it is something normal for me like eating and resting   When it comes to your physical well you can cook or let you cook for you Lobo: I'm not fussy about food as long as I'm healthy, I could not live with hamburgers, that's for sure lol   What does your environment tell you about your passion for metal (friends / family / colleagues) ? Lobo: Normally they are happy for my growths, I usually surround myself with good people and those who are not, quickly notice that these things bother them, success is like the smell of a fart, when it is not yours it bothers you, those people have that optics.   How do you see the problem with the haters on the internet who have to announce their mental garbage in anonymity always and everywhere? Lobo: What a hater can say is only an opinion, I do not give importance to those things, usually what someone can say about yourself affecting you, responds to internally connects with a coincidental opinion that you yourself have about your being . There is a story that says that a man and his son had a donkey, when they came walking, people said "that idiots, they have a donkey and they do not use it" to which the man gets on the donkey and they arrive in another city and the people said "look what a thoughtless father leaving his son walking" they go to another town and the son went over the donkey this time and people said "Look what a thoughtless son leaving the father to walk so much" to which both loaded the donkey to get to the next town and people said "Look at those idiots carrying the donkey" then the moral is "every time you hear the opinion of another you will end up carrying a donkey"   What do you think about the internet in general? a blessing or a curse? Lobo: it is an ambiguous   Which question would you like to have answered and why? Lobo: "You're happy making music" the answer is yes, that's what I was born for.   What would you personally like to do in your life? Lobo: Achieve all the plans that I have in mind in a correct and consistent but always excellent way   Your top 10 all time album faves Lobo: Riot Thundersteel and Privilegies of power The Dark Ride, Walls Of Jericho, Time Of The Oath Of Helloween Reign in Blood Slayer Appetite for destruction Guns and Roses Clayman In flames Acid Argentino Hermetica Fighting spirit Malon   The closing word is yours? Lobo: thank you very much for supporting Metal and emerging bands, for the passion and the interview, I hope you are completely recovered from your health, greetings to all those who have taken the time to read the interview.soon there will be more news of our next album with Southern Skies
