PHENOMY   THRASH METAL FROM LEBANON Band Questions answer by LOÏC EL HADDAD
Please introduce yourself and the band members briefly? My name is Loïc EL Haddad i am the Lead Guitarist and co-founder of the band. The other current band members are Rudy Bejjani (Drummer) , Dany Arfan (Rhythm Guitar) , Sam Felfly (Vocals) , Peter Aoun (Bassist)   What does the band name mean and how do you get it? It’s just a cool name that we liked coming from the word Phenomenal   Where and how was the band founded? Rudy and I started to play together since we were kids. Later on we started writing our own music (which became our debut album “Once And For All” later on) just for the fun of it. Then friends started listening to it and say why don’t you form an actual band and start playing live. And with that we started searching for band members (which is not the easiest thing to do here in Lebanon)   Have you played in other bands before? Actually, Rudy , Dany and I were in a band called Backlash before we found new members and called the new band Phenomy.   Was it hard to find suitable band members who fit musically and humanely with the band? Of course, especially in Lebanon, metal is not really popular. Finding committed members was really tough.   How did you get in touch with the harder music? I think it's damn hard to get music in your home country? When we were young we would buy whatever’s available. The genre’s music was really interesting to us , the topics and themes it involved was what we really enjoyed. Bands like Metallica , Pantera were our first influences. Then the internet became more accessible so we started to discover new bands and new styles.   What are the lyrics about and who of you is writing them ? It’s usually written by me. Then all band members add some stuff here and there. The vocal lines are adjusted with Sam (Vocalist).   Which bands inspired you and how would you describe your music to someone who has never heard a sound from you? Well each one of us has his own musical taste really. Rudy is really much into Metalcore drumming, Sam is really inspired by Corey Taylor and Randy Blythe. So our music is really much inspired by whatever we would like to hear ourselves.   Why should people listen to our music? If they like Aggressive music with lots of melodies and groove, i think they will enjoy our music.   Who helped you in making your   last T.W.O album? The composing was mostly by Rudy and I. The production and Recording was made at RMG Studios in Lebanon. The mixing was done by a friend of ours Toufic Aoun (HXC Productions). The mastering was made by Dagoose Mastering in the Netherlands. The artwork was put to life by Rhett Podersoo. We thank them all for their awesome job.   You have released two albums in two years you are working on new music pretty fast. when can we expect the next release? We are currently working on the upcoming one. Our third album and yes we are looking forward to release it as soon as it’s done. We’re really excited about this one. It really sounds new , fresh and fucking Heavy!   What was your first concert as a fan? and what memory do you have of it? My first big concert was Metallica in turkey. Just seeing your idols live is the best feeling ever.   Is it difficult for you to play concerts in Lebanon? Finding a venue and to cover the cost is the hardest really because this type of music is not really popular around here.   Would you like to play a tour in Europe? We love to play in Europe and which we did several times. We played all over eastern Europe, played festivals like METAL HEAD MEETING in Romania and Wacken Open Air in Germany.   What were your live highlights and with which bands did you play? In every show there are highlights. We really enjoy each and every show we play. But seeing new faces and making new friends and fans, seeing them enjoying your music is the best feeling of it all. We had the chance to play with bands like Orphaned Land, Soulfly, Children Of Bodom, Kataklysm and soon touring with Sepultura. We can’t wait for what’s coming.   Have already resulted in friendship ? We had the chance to meet Alexi Laiho from Bodom, Derrick Green from Sepultura, Thomas Jensen founder of Wacken Open Air. The best people you could ever meet.   With what do you earn your money except with the music? Each one of us has his own job. I am an administrator of rehearsal rooms for bands. Rudy is a drums instructor. Peter is a graphic designer and lots of good stuff. Dany has an online Job. Sam works with his father in his industrial arts company.   How important are social media for you as a band? Social Media has become one of the most important source for everything really. So easy to access anyone and anything with these.   What would you (her) want to achieve with the band? We’re really enjoying the journey and we hope to achieve bigger goals. Play in front of bigger crowds and share our music with more people.   What do you think about the Lebanon metal scene in general? The Lebanese metal scene is getting better with time. It has it’s highs and lows but it’s currently doing really well.   Maybe you can recommend some bands from your area? Of course, we have lots of talent around here like Metal bands like Blaakyum, Qantara, Slave To Sirens. In other genres i personally love Yeti Pop and Pastor Henry.   PERSONAL QUESTIONS !   Where did you grow up and how was your childhood? I was born in Ivory Coast grew up there and came back to my home country when i was 7 years old.   How was your school time you were rather the good student or the break clown ? Oh the break clown of course.   How did your parents react when you started making metal music? did they support you and how do you feel about your music today? They really love the music, apart from the growling. They are really supportive. Especially my brother Kevin.   Would you be successful in making music as a musician? I don’t know, let’s see.   Are you someone who loves the hustle and bustle of the big city? or rather looking for peace and relaxation in nature? Peace and relaxation always. I currently live in a small village called Aain Aar away from the city.   Do you actively practice sports or are you more of a passive spectator? When i have time i love to do some jogging and home workouts.   When it comes to your physical well you can cook or let you cook for you I can do some stuff. But usually it’s either my mother, girlfriend or friends cooking.   What does your environment tell you about your passion for metal (friends / family / colleagues) ? Well my friends are mostly metal heads or supporters of music in general so it’s always good. I am not really around these people who think that we’re satanists or whatever.   How do you see the problem with the haters on the internet who have to announce their mental garbage in anonymity always and everywhere? Well we shouldn’t really mind the haters and focuse more on making ourselves better everytime. Of course we have to listen to critics and take the helpful ones into consideration.   What do you think about the internet in general? a blessing or a curse? It’s always us who make it a blessing or a curse. It’s there, you can make good use of it or not.   What would you personally like to do in your life?
