ODEUM DEUS   DEATH METAL FROM SWEDEN Band Questions answer by Hampus Andersson
Please introduce yourself and the band members briefly? This is Hampus, lead guitar of Odeum Deus writing. We’re 5 guys from Sweden who likes to play heavy and evil metal music.   What does the band name mean and how do you get it? It’s latin for “devious god“ or something along those lines. Our guitarist Börna came up with that one with a bunch of other suggeztions.   Where and how was the band founded? Putte started it all before the creation of time. His persistence forged us all together.   Was it hard to find suitable band members who fit musically and humanely with the band? It took a while. We didn‘t materialize as our current form until just last year.   What are the lyrics about and who of you is writing them? It appears there are many ways to express violence and evil insanity in lyrics. We take turns writing and try to impress each other with our morbid imagination. Like a fountain of terror if you will.   Which bands inspired you and how would you describe your music to someone who has never heard a sound from you? The 90s metal classics are of course the objects of admiration. Entombed, Morbid Angel, Vader, Unleashed, Obituary and more Our own sound is difficult to put in words but if you’re into heavy distorted riffing, powerful growling vocals, naturally unique song structures, fretless psycho bass and a tastefully sparse amount of guitar solos, our album “Fist Fight“ could be right up your alley.   Why should people listen to your music? Because they’re probably tired of all the same sounding, pretty played, modern and trendy metal of today.   You released your debut album Fist Fight in summer 2018. How did the work go on and who supported you in the production? Most of the work we did ourself. Recording was two weekends in Eskilstuna of our frost bitten Sweden. Some parts are first takes. We’ll send out a thanks here to Gylfen for the mix.   I read that you are already working on new songs when could we expect a release? The new record is being mixed right now as we speak. After we have it mastered we’ll work out a release plan for the summer of 2019   What was your first concert as a fan? And what memory do you have of it? I was at Ullevi stadium in Gothenburg trying to catch a glimpse of Iron Maiden. I sat far away and they were tiny dots. Great show.   What were your live highlights and with which bands did you play? I’ve played most kinds of music and different instruments. I played drums in a blues band I was urged to play a drum solo by a happy drunk audience at the local tavern. That was a good one. Sprained my ankle while going crazy playing bass on that same stage another time. Not as good. Walked funny for two weeks.   Have it already resulted in friendship? Oh you meant OUR band.. No we’re mean bastards to everyone   If you'd like to play live and if you would like to? We’re looking for some shows to play this freezing winter season. We havn’t made it to the outside of our country boarders yet though.   With what do you earn your money except with the music? We’re doing part time slave labour just like everyone else   How important are social media for you as a band? Without it I’m not sure we would be heard by as many as we are. We’re not in love with it though.   What would you want to achieve with the band? Freedom. The ability to play metal of our own design at our leisure.   What do you think about the Sweden metal scene in general? It’s not what it once was. Still good.   Maybe you can recommend some bands from your area? They’re not around anymore but Mamont were fine stuff. Stoner retro rock. They’re probably on Spotify.   PERSONAL QUESTIONS!   Where did you grow up and how was your childhood? I grew up out of town. I wasn’t as evil back then as I am now. Sold my soul to Satan just recently.   How was your school time, you were rather the good student or the break clown ? Barely got grades at all. Started playing guitar in high school.     How did your parents react when you started making metal music? did they support you and how do you feel about your music today? They want it even heavier   Would you be successful in making music as a musician? Making music is not an issue. Making money, that’s tough. Once you get some cash it starts evaporating immediatly.   Are you someone who loves the hustle and bustle of the big city? Or rather looking for peace and relaxation in nature? I want to have the cookie and eat it.   Do you actively practice sports or are you more of a passive spectator? I came in third at the Nyköping Championship of Table Hockey   When it comes to your physical well you can cook or let you cook for you ? Food is meant to be eaten. Not cooked. That’s part of my beliefs.   What does your environment tell you about your passion for metal (friends / family / colleagues) ? Most seem impressed. Many don’t realize the racket we’re making due to their smartphone dysfunctions but we pray for them every day.   How do you see the problem with the haters on the internet who have to announce their mental garbage in anonymity always and everywhere? Haha! It’s good that they’re doing something. You know, you gotta have something to do. They should apply for political positions and get paid for the mental garbage like the other hustlers     What do you think about the internet in general? a blessing or a curse? It’s like Heroin. Addictive like nothing else and too good to be any healthy for you.   What would you personally like to do in your life? Die spectacularly!   Which question would you like to have answeard and why? I would have liked to have answeared the meaning of life because everyone seem to be wondering. But it’s a tough nut to crack   Sweden Cold right now.
