MUIREADACH   POWER METAL FROM PARAGUAY Band Questions answer by NIAHM
Please introduce yourself and the band members briefly? Hello there! My name is Niahm, I am the singer of Muireadach. Muireadach started as a family project, nowadays, my brother Murray Muireadach and Mario Armoa are our guitar men, Fernando Duarte is the bass player, Roger Teixeira plays the keyboard and last but never least, Alexandro Benítez, the drums!   What does the band name mean and how do you get it? Muireadach is the root celtic word that gave origin to many last names such as Murdoch, one that runs in the family and we honor, as it was out Grandfather’s, and he was a pillar in our lives.   Where and how was the band founded? Muireadach was born indoors, idea of my brothers, in 2005, during our regular family meetings. From the idea to start composing and rehearsing was a single step, we were all on board to make the music we love.   Have you played in other bands before? I sing in the two Power Metal bands, Muireadach, with my brother Murray, and Stormia (about to release our first material),with my brother Daniel Anzak. Also made vocal collaborations with other bands such as Idillicah and Mythika.   Was it hard to find suitable band members who fit musically and humanely with the band? As it is to all bands, but we actually have quite a chemistry with the actual formation. The songs, the arrangements, everything flows, these guys are the best!   What does the band name mean? It means „Lord of the Sea“, others translate it as „The one who come from the Sea“ and it was used to refer to the norse men raiding the coasts of Scottland in the IX Century. Many of them stayed and married gaelic women, that’s how the nickname became a last name in many places of Scottland, and a male name in Ireland. (According to my research)   What are the lyrics about and who of you is writing them ? The lyrics have no specific theme, I may write about winter as well as about love, or hate, or just stories, although I must admit that when I write them, I always give them a little epic twist. I try to tell a story in all of them, and leave the message that no matter how hard is the fight, there’s always hope, and triumph for the brave in the end.   Which bands inspired you and how would you describe your music to someone who has never heard a sound from you? I could not tell which bands because we all are pretty eclectic and listen to a lot of music. We cannot deny certain influences, because we love Yngwie, Dio, Iron Maiden, Angra, Rhapsody, and so many others we listen to since we were kids! If I should tell someone who never listened from or to us before, how is our music, I’d say that we make the music we love, it cannot be encaged in a single style, but it is mostly Power and Symphonic Metal.   Why should people listen to our music? Just because they like it.   Your album Tales is from 2013. Do you already have new songs and when can you expect a new album? Yes, we do have many new songs, and we are recording right now our next album!   In which direction do the new songs go and how far are they different from your old songs? I’d like to think that we grew stronger in our sound and musical arrangements, but the inspiration is the same, doing what we love and leaving a message.   What was your first concert as a fan? and what memory do you have of it?   My brothers band, I was 16, and I was amazed of what my little brothers were doing on stage! That band was Human Race. (Paraguay is not frequently a stop point for big international bands, to the day)   Is it difficult to organize in Paraguay? Yes, it is, unfortunately and for many reasons, starting by the funding.   What were your live highlights and with which bands did you play? Highlights? Everytime I put a step on stage. I have fun, and I feel alive! We opened Hangar (Br), Almah (Br), Sepultura (Br), two of our musicians played in a sort of an ad-hoc band for Timo Tolkki when he visited Paraguay, also opened for Epica, Ripper Owens, Twilight (Arg), Rata Blanca (Arg) and Mr. Big.   Have already resulted in friendship ? Having opened for them, yes, with some of them, deffinitely, many years have happened and we are still in touch, specially with the brazilian and argentinian guys who are just amazing.   With what do you earn your money except with the music? We all have normal jobs, each one of us is a proffesional y one or more than one area.   How important are social media for you as a band? It keeps us connected to our people, and permits us to let them know the news about us.   What would you (her) want to achieve with the band? I believe we all want to leave a legacy, that’s it. Music that someone, someday, when we are not along anymore, could listen and dig!   What do you think about the Paraguay metal scene in general? I love it! It is so rich! Paraguay has many, many, many talented musicians, and great bands.   Maybe you can recommend some bands from your area? Yes! Sabaoth, Wisdom, The Force, Kuazar, there are so many!   PERSONAL QUESTIONS !   Where did you grow up and how was your childhood? I grew up in Asunción, Paraguay,in a very musical family. My childhood was full of music, I cannot remember a Saturday that I would wake up without music already sounding in the house.   How was your school time you were rather the good student or the break clown ? Neither, and both, I was just a regular kid, good grades in general.   How did your parents react when you started making metal music? did they support you and how do you feel about your music today? Our parents (our whole family, in fact) have always supported us, since we were kids playing rock at school.   Would you be successful in making music as a musician? I couldn’t say, because it is not my main goal, I just want to communicate with people.   Are you someone who loves the hustle and bustle of the big city? or rather looking for peace and relaxation in nature? Peace and Harmony, all the way. Except for some good metal shows, that I deeply enjoy, I like my time at home alone with my cats and listening to music or singing just for myself, also I treasure every minute with my family and my fiancé.   Do you actively practice sports or are you more of a passive spectator? I train between 45 minutes and 1,5 hours daily. I think that’s more than enough for my age, hahaha.   When it comes to your physical well you can cook or let you cook for you (I don’t understand if it is slang, sorry!) Of course I cook and I know how to do it in the healthiest way, my mom taught us all siblings since we were little. But I also love my mom’s, grandma’s and fiancé’s food! (Maybe not so healthy but damn tasty!) If you meant if I am a „Do it yourself“ person, hell yes. I do what I have to do and don’t expect others to do it for me. A shoulder to rely on comes handy every once in a while, but I was built to stand on my own feet.   What does your environment tell you about your passion for metal (friends / family / colleagues) ? Well, some older colleagues think it is not a good idea being a metal singer, giving shows, having tattoos, less of all me being a woman, but I am a proffesional, I know my stuff, and my other likes in life do not mix with my ethics at work. On the other hand, my family and friends are my biggest support.   How do you see the problem with the haters on the internet who have to announce their mental garbage in anonymity always and everywhere? I think that mental health is not being taken seriously enough, some people use social media as therapy, and it will never work for them.   What do you think about the internet in general? a blessing or a curse? It deppends on who is using it, for me, it is a blessing.   What would you personally like to do in your life? I can say that I already fulfilled many of my (several) bucket lists, so, at this point in my life, I just wanna keep being happy, to love and being loved.   Which question would you like to have answered and why? Why we human beings tend to be so indifferent and even cruel, sometimes.   Paraguay My land, I’d give my sweat and my blood for my country.   Austria Always wanted to go there!   Helloween or Iron Maiden Both!   Metallica or Nightwish Both! (told you, eclectic!)   Iguazu The city? All the way.   Cana I preffer inner tourism.   Beer or Juice Fruit juice and water.     Sopa Paraguaya Of course I like it but I LOVE CHIPA GUASU!   Holiday All of them, because that’s family time!   Family The greatest people on earth for me.   Drugs None. I like to keep my mind as clear as possible. Being a proffesional in many areas such as Crime Scene Investigation (Homicides Specialization), IT Auditor, Strategic Data Analyst and Musician) you’ll see, I need to think straight as much as I can.   Soccer Not my sport.   Movie or Series I am a series gal.   Your Top 10 Series CSI (all of them) Criminal Minds NCIS (Did I mention I am a CSI? For real.) Quiz from God Merlin Mindhunter Vikings (Of course!) A Team! McGiver Airwolf   Your top 5 in time! CSI Criminal Minds NCIS Vikings Merlin   The closing word is yours? Do you mean if I am „The Boss“? Hahahahaha! Nah, we take votes, always. Can I give some closing words? Music is a gift, a grace, a string from up above straight to us, joining us to one another, it can make us cry, or feel glory, it heals us, it touches our soul at the time it moves our bodies, and mindes! It can make us feel we are connected to other living beings, as well as to connected to the Divine. It is communication at the highest level. A world without it would be such a sad place.
