Please introduce yourself and the band members briefly? Hello! Well, we’ve got me, Patrik, on vocals. Jonathan Persson is handling the drums. Justin Biggs is our bass player and Danjel May is our guitarist.   What does the band name mean and how do you get it? One of my favorite seasons is Autumn. I love how gloomy everything gets, especially here in Sweden. There’s this melancholy feeling I get from it and I actually had a lot of ideas for band names when I formed the project so many years ago. But I decided upon Autumn’s Mourning. Our music is sort of melancholy, I love autumn. That turned in to Autumn’s Mourning.   Where and how was the band founded? Initially Autumn’s Mourning was formed as a one man kind of project back in 2012 or 2013, I can’t remember exactly. I’ve always been a fan of video game music, movie soundtracks and so on and I had some ideas for songs lying around and I tried to add some orchestral elements to those songs and voila! I thought : This is the kind of music I wanted to write! It wasn’t until years later I realized that I wanted to make this a fully-fledged band instead of a one-man project.   Have you played in other bands before? Yep, but that was a long time ago. I play most instruments but in my teens I was a drummer in a few bands but that was just for fun.   Was it hard to find suitable band members who fit musically and humanely with the band? Definetely. I was actually very picky when picking members for the band, haha. I’m very fortunate to have the other guys in the band. Not only are they superb musicians, but we get along as if we have been friends for years!   What are the lyrics about and who of you is writing them ? Well, Gotland is about..Gotland! I was born here but I grew up on the mainland and I’ve always wanted to move back here. There’s something about the nature here. I feel a connection to it. I write all of the lyrics.   Which bands inspired you and how would you describe your music to someone who has never heard a sound from you? I’d say my primary influence is Nobuo Uematsu. Truth is, I don’t listen to metal to the same extent as 10-15 years ago. Nowadays I draw my influences from composers such as Howard Shore, John Williams, Hanz Zimmer. Of course, nature has a huge part in my writing as well. Nobuo Uematsu is the man whose music triggered my interest, while hearing Moonsorrow for the first time countless years ago made me want to do metal.   Why should people listen to your music? I’d say that we’re quite unique. We have a mixture many styles of music in our own music. People who have played video games like Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger and MegaMan X will surely recognize some elements in our music   Gotland is your debut ep and contains two songs and an intro how long have you been working on it? The Morning Mist is actually an older song of mine, but I’ve rearranged it a lot. The composition of the songs didn’t take much time as I thought it would. Of course a lot of time went into arranging the orchestra and choirs. I’d say the thing that took the most amount of time was the mixing process.   Who helped you with the genesis and who is responsible for the sound? The EP was recorded in different places around Sweden but mostly in Visby, not far from where I live. We chose a smaller studio for the recording. The recordings for Gotland took place I was actually the only member of the band. By choosing a local studio, it saved me from going to the mainland too, so that’s a plus.   I also like the cover artwork very well. Who is responsible and how do you like it personally? Thank you. We like it a lot too. The cover artwork was made by my good buddy Walter Deyo over at Oaken Throne Design.   I think your voice is very good. Why have I never heard of you before and you've never been to metal bands before, at least I do not know? Thank you!   I have never been in another band as a vocalist even though I’ve been singing and growling for nearly 11 years. I was a stand in vocalist for a metal band many, many years ago but that’s it. Before I started exploring my voice more seriously I considered myself primarily as a drummer and keyboard player and I was a drummer in a few bands in my teens, but as I said earlier, the bands I was in back then never made it further than a few rehearsals.   Are you in negotiations with a label or will you continue to publish everything yourself? At the moment we’re not in any negotiations with a label, but our ambition is to publish future releases through a record label.   How far have you been with other songs and how are the plans for your debut album going? I’ve got lots of material written. No more details on that, though. *wink*   What was your first concert as a fan? And what memory do you have of it? My first concert? I can’t remember, haha. I’ve been to quite many concerts.   What were your live highlights and with which bands did you play? We haven’t played live yet! We’re looking to play some gigs in the not so distant future.   Which band would you like to play live with and why? There are a few Swedish bands I’d personally love to play live with. Night Crowned is one of them, but the list is very long.   With what do you earn your money except with the music? I have a regular day job as a store manager, Justin is a musician full time, Jonathan works in IT and Danjel used to work as a guitar teacher!   How important are social media for you as a band? I think social media is very important for any artist. It’s the key to getting your name out there apart from releasing music.   What would you (her) want to achieve with the band? Our plan is to do this full time. What do you think about the Sweden Metal scene in general? The Swedish Metal scene is as good as ever, if not better. There’s a lot of new bands, us included. But then there are bands who have been around for 10-20 years and they still sound as fresh.   Maybe you can recommend some bands from your area? There are many bands but a few are Night Crowned, Sorcerer which is Justins other band, Diabolical which Jonathan is a member of. PERSONAL QUESTIONS !   Where did you grow up and how was your childhood? I was born on Gotland but I grew up in a city on the mainland. I didn’t quite like it, too much commotion and I was quite far from the sort of nature that I like. My childhood was quite fun. I started with music at a very early age. My first instrument was the piano.   How was your school time you were rather the good student or the break clown ? I’d say good student, my teachers would say clown.   How did your parents react when you started making metal music? did they support you and how do you feel about your music today? They were very supportive of me wanting to make music, but I’m not sure if they wanted me to write metal music. I think they like the music, though.   Would you be successful in making music as a musician? I think so!   Are you someone who loves the hustle and bustle of the big city? or rather looking for peace and relaxation in nature? I don’t know. I love the peace and quiet, but the big city can be quite appealing as well.   Do you actively practice sports or are you more of a passive spectator? I don’t do any sports. I want to stay somewhat in shape though so for instance instead of taking the bus to work, I walk.   When it comes to your physical well you can cook or let you cook for you I’d say I’m a good cook. But of course having someone cook for you is always nice!   What does your environment tell you about your passion for metal (friends / family / colleagues) ? They’re supportive and I’m thankful for that!   How do you see the problem with the haters on the internet who have to announce their mental garbage in anonymity always and everywhere? It is a problem for sure. I think that the people who hide behind a monitor and talk negatively about stuff online is just absurd. There’s a fine line between constructive criticism and being a jerk and unfortunately some people have crossed that line.   What do you think about the internet in general? a blessing or a curse? I don’t know. If we’re talking about social media I’m active on Instagram but that’s about it. I do announce band-related stuff on my personal Facebook page though, but that’s about it.   Which question would you like to have answered and why? What came first? The chicken or the egg?   What would you personally like to do in your life? I’d like to take Autumn’s Mourning as far as my desires can.   Sweden I like it!   Austria Never been there, but I think I’d enjoy it!   Bagel I like it!   J.R.R. Tolkien I love it!   Zlatan Ibrahimović I don’t care much about sports   Jason Statham One of my favorite action actors.   Movie or Series That depends. I like ‘em both!   Science-Fiction I like it!   Bogeviken I go there a lot, actually. I have a rowboat which I usually go out into the middle of the lake in the summer and just relax   Spillingsskatten A huge pile of treasure. It’s insane!   Coffe Can’t live without it. Can anyone?   Soccer or Ice Hockey Not a fan of sports, but I’d have to say Soccer   CD or Vinyl Tough question. I’d have to say both!   Elk Majestic animals!   Family Family’s important!   Your top 10 all time album faves Wow. Too difficult to answer.   Your top 5 albums in time   ! 5: Duskmourn – Of Shadow and Flame 4: Ozzy Osbourne – The Ultimate Sin 3: Jeremy Soule – The Northener Diaries 2: Howard Shore – The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Movie Soundtrack 1: Everything Nobuo Uematsu has ever done.   The closing word is yours? Thanks for having me! If you haven’t already checked out our debut EP ‘Gotland‘, you can find it on
