Please introduce yourself and the band members briefly ? I'm Hannes Aigner, my stage name is Hansen, and I play bass in the hardrock/metalband APIS.We are five, so I rock with:Andi Krammer on vocals, Gynny Neuhold on guitar/vocals,Mark Heiss on guitar, Ross Kohlhuber on drums. What does the band name mean and how do you get it ? APIS is the sacred bull from egyptian mythology, it symbolizes power, cohesion, pride. These characteristics reflect the band as a close-knit team, so we chose this name. Where and how was the band founded ? It began in 2013 in Leoben, upper Styria. The guitarists Mark and Gynny knew each other from previous bands. They met, when they were doing christmas shopping. Mark said: "Hello, how are you, blablabla.Let's try something together !"Gynny answered: "Sure, I'll call you."Nothing happened. One year later, same situation, christmas shopping again: Mark: "And now ?" Gynny: "Sure !" This time it was meant that way.I and Ross, the drummer, said "Sure !" to Gynny, so he was on board. After the first rehearsals in January 2015, Andi called us, becausehe knew that we still had no shouter. We said: " Just join in and sing ! "So we were complete. Have you played in other bands before ? Yes, but not bass. First I played guitar, later drums.I started playing bass at APIS. My friends there brought a lot of experience from other bands and can also play several instruments. That's a big advantage for writing songs. Was it hard to find suitable band members who fit musically and humanely with the band ? It was pretty easy, because some of us had played together before, and everyone knew each other already. What does the band name mean ? In ancient egyptian religion, APIS was a sacred bull worshiped in the Memphis region, identified as the son of Hathor, a primary deity in the pantheon of ancient egypt. What are the lyrics about and who of you is writing them ? The lyrics are often about what we have experienced ourself and what is important to us. On other days, we watch news on tv and write about a headline. Mostly Andi writes the verses, sometimes Gynny. Which bands inspired you and how would you describe your music to someone who has never heard a sound from you ? There are so many ! Each one of us had that one important moment in life that took him to the music. Very interesting is that it always had to do something with METALLICA. For example, one watched a video, the other heard a song that made him start learning to play an instrument. Our music sounds like rumbling rhythm on bass and drums with hard-working guitars and screaming vocal harmonies. How long did the completion of AWAKING take and who was helpful to the side ? The recordings for our second album AWAKING started in November 2017 at Basement Studios in Kapfenberg, upper Styria. Studioboss and mastermind Hari Gstettner gave us very good advice, so we produced the album ourselves with a little help from Hari. It took about half a year to write, record and master the songs. The album-work was done on May 26th 2018; we released AWAKING live at Tenne Schladnitz Leoben. What were your live highlights and with which bands did you play ? It began with the first APIS concert on September 11th 2015 at Spektrum, a club in our hometown. A few weeks later we were booked for 'Rock On Halloween',with headliner THE SORROW. 2016 we performed at the 'Feel The Noise' festival, where we shared the stage with SONIC SYNDICATE and CALIBAN.2017 we had a great gig at the 'Area 53', where we played again in July 2018, with DRAGONFORCE and IN EXTREMO - four days after our gig at the 'Metal On The Hill' with ICED EARTH. Have already resulted in friendship ? At a festival you meet some opening acts. You jump in, you establish contact with a lot of musicians. So we are friends with many bands. If you'd like to play live and if you would like to ? I and my fellows, we love to play live, and our stage acting is spontaneous -the audience likes us, maybe  because we really play absolutely live,we don't use samples. Our fans say, we are hot. What do you think and what do you think about the Austrian scene in general ? Well, in our little alpine state we got a number of internationally respected active bands: If the metal-tourist knew or knows our metal-exports like THE SORROW, BELPHEGOR, HELLSAW or VISIONS OF ATLANTIS, he still will find beautiful flowers of doom ! Austria's metal scene invites the visitor to bang his head. Enjoy ! Why do you think in the Austrian media the hard rock or heavy metal, regardless of whether national or international almost not considered ? Maybe the austrian metal landscape is not as prominent as that of other similar-sized countries. And: The Austrian media prefer 'light food'. That's just the way it is. With what do you earn your money except with the music ? I'm a plumber, Andi is a salesman, Ross a seller, Mark a mechanic, Gynny a steelworker. We all have full-time jobs. How important are social media for you as a band ? They are really great for sharing the band-news, like concert dates, interviews, pics, videos. You contact a lot of people very fast. Nothing works without Facebook these days. What would you (her) want to achieve with the band ? We want to have as many fans as possible to listen to our music, because our message is: 'Stay down to earth, but try to live your dreams. Pursue a goal, never give up.' We are curious how far it will go. Maybe you can recommend some bands from your area ? There are many bands at eye level. We would like to thank the bands VINEGAR HILL, CHAOS MESSERSCHMITT, and CYROX for their friendship and cooperation. PERSONAL QUESTIONS ! Where did you grow up and how was your childhood ? I was born in Steyr, upper Austria. Soon after my birth, my parents moved to Eisenerz, a city well known for the ERZBERG RODEO. I was an only child and had a carefree childhood, and I was rarely ill. In Eisenerz I grew up and went to school there, too; and I'm still living there. How was your school time you were rather the good student or the break clown ? Neither student nor clown, I was more of a democratic observer, I just didn't want to be in trouble. How did your parents react when you started making metalmusic ? Did they support you and how do you feel about your music today ? Metal was something completely different for my parents, they liked evergreens.Although they never understood my music, they bought me a guitar. So I began to learn my twelve bar anything, it was more loud than good. Later I played better, and they came to see my concerts. Today music is a way for me to express my feelings on stage, it feels like having sex. Would you be successful in making music as a musician ? The most important thing is that making music is fun. Time will tell if we will become internationally known someday. Step by step, the journey is the reward. Are you someone who loves the hustle and bustle of the big city ? Or rather looking for peace and relaxation in nature ? I think I need both. I'm living in a small town close to nature, and I like that. On the other hand, I like the big city lights, if only because of the clubs and areas we can play at. Do you actively practice sports or are you more of a passive spectator ? I'm not the big sportsman, but I keep myself fit for the stage, I go jogging a few times a week; therefore I'm no couchsurfer. When it comes to your physical well you can cook or let you cook for you ? I can if I can find the time. If not, I go out for lunch - that happens more often. It's a time problem from Monday to Friday, but it's better on the weekend. What does your environment tell you about your passion for metal (friends/family/colleagues) ? Well, my friends understand that because some of them are musicians themselves. My family, on the other hand, would like to have me more often at home. Time is not easy to manage, but I come home every day and try to have enough time. And they share my passion as much as my colleagues who come to an APIS concert. How do you see the problem with the haters on the internet who have to announce their mental garbage in anonymity always and everywhere ? Who wastes so much time with doing and writing bad things obviously has some problems with himself. Such people need help, but not from us, because time is money. What do you think about the internet in general ? A blessing or a curse ? You can get information quickly and comprehensively - that's good, but you should not believe everything that is on the internet. There are many fake- news, and unfortunately many conspiracy theories. Fortunately, we are not prone to such things and use the internet to promote APIS. What would you personally like to do in your life ? I want to live as long as I can !Joking aside, I would like to make a world trip with my family. Which question would you like to have answered and why ? Any question, because there are no stupid questions, right Styria Austria's green heart. We offer to the metalfan: Relaxation in beautiful nature, Leoben's famous 'GÖSSER', our legendary local beer, and the 'AREA 53' festival. Cheers Austria The heart of Europe.
